PILOT INFORMATION

Fly neighbourly

  • Normal aircraft operations are 8am (Sunday 9am) until 8pm. Departures prior to 8am (Sunday 9am) are allowed but aircraft must immediately fly away from the airfield and valley to reduce noise and should not return before normal operating hours.

  • Continuous engine test runs not permitted outside normal hours.

  • Continuous circuits or circuit training are not allowed at any time.

  • Low flying over noise sensitive areas shown on the diagram below should be avoided.

Arrival/Departure

  • Please register landing below.

  • CTAF frequency 126.0 MHZ.

  • All ACFT Arriving, Departing and within circuit are required to carry VHF radio and broadcast intentions on CTAF 126.0 MHZ.

  • Inbound CTAF calls must be made at 10 miles, 5 miles and also at 3 miles due to terrain. Arrivals via Ovens Valley should make initial 10 mile call abeam Myrtleford.  Straight in approach to RWY 18 not advised.

  • Arrivals via Ovens Valley should be aware of increased fire helicopter traffic during summer months at the 'tobacco research station'.

  • All Aircraft to be aware that the Ovens Valley between Myrtleford and YPOK is a high traffic area due terrain/airspace contraints and it is the main approach and departure route for YPOK.

  • High terrain to the west and east of the airfield and within circuit.

  • There is no runway lighting and night operations are not authorised.

  • Maximum aircraft weight 3,600kg (MTOW)

  • Beware of regular hang gliding and paragliding activity around airfield and over Bright township.

  • Further advice available from Duty ARO 0490 175 178.

Runways

  • Runway 820 metre grass strip.

  • Runway directions 18/36, with 36 sloping down to north by 2 deg.

  • Elevation of 935ft ASL.

  • Roads close to northern and southern ends of the runway.

  • Runway may be soft after rain, particularly at the northern end.

  • When taxiing backtrack a runway to remain clear of hangars and parked aircraft.

  • Visitor parking as indicated below at own risk. Parking longer than 10 days requires written approval.

  • Paragliding ground handling is permitted however pilots must carry a VHF radio, monitor CTAF and follow HGFA procedures found HERE.

  • Pilots arriving by ground and using runway must register below

Noise Sensitive Areas

Avoid low flying in these areas where possible.

The runway at YPOK is used by a diverse group of users including RA and GA aircraft, Emergency Service Aircraft, Gliders, radio control models, Trikes and Paramotor/glider pilots including paraglider training.  To ensure a safe airfield everyone needs to be aware of expected runway use.  Please complete this form to register your arrival or activity at Porepunkah Airfield (YPOK). NOTE: only aircraft details will be published.

Landing Donation

The Porepunkah Airfield is maintained by volunteers and donations assist to cover the cost of maintenance.  A donation of $10 is requested from all visiting and landing aircraft. You can use the payment link below to make a donation.
